CMAB & IMB-CNM - Two Open Positions to do research in Quantum sensors for ultralight dark matter searches

Clúster MAV,

Several research positions will be available from Autumn 2021 in the framework of the Next Generation Europe funds, through the CSIC PTI+ on Quantum Technologies, as a close collaboration the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) with the Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC) among other partners.

The two positions at ICMAB and IMB-CNM are linked to a R&D project on the Development of superconducting quantum sensors working at very low temperatures for ultralight dark matter searches.

Superconducting cryogenic detectors, such as Transition-Edge Sensors (TES) and Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors (SNSPD), are extremely sensitive sensors working at cryogenic temperatures, much below 1K. These devices are capable of detecting single photons or phonons, and are thus essential for a new generation of instruments in Astrophysics and Particle Physics. They are also being developed for Quantum communications.

The research work will focus on the development of thin film materials for the fine tuning of their superconducting properties, as well as on TES and SNSPD device design, fabrication and testing. The researcher will be integrated within a multidisciplinary team constituted by experts in materials science, superconductivity, nanotechnology, cryogenics and particle physicists.
